As you enter this space, you may notice a small table placed in a position of honor. This table, set for one, holds immense significance as it symbolizes the absence of brave individuals from our profession of arms. Known as P.O.W.'s (Prisoners of War) or M.I.A.'s (Missing in Action), we affectionately consider them as our brothers. Tonight, as they are unable to be with us, it is our duty to remember them and honor their sacrifice.

Frailty in the Face of Oppression

This table, deliberately small in size, represents the fragility that a single prisoner faces against their oppressors. Just as this table stands alone, these courageous souls were separated from their comrades in arms. We pay homage to their unwavering strength in the face of unimaginable challenges.

A Symbol of Purity and Sacrifice

The white table cloth adorning this table serves as a powerful symbol of the purity of their intentions. It signifies their resolute commitment to answer their country's call to arms. We acknowledge their selflessness and the sacrifices they made for the greater good.

Remembering the Families Left Behind

A single rose delicately displayed in a vase reminds us of the families and loved ones anxiously awaiting the return of their missing comrades. It symbolizes the unwavering faith and hope they hold, despite the passage of time. The red ribbon prominently tied around the vase represents the countless individuals who wear red ribbons as a symbol of their undying commitment to seeking a proper accounting for our missing heroes.

A Reminder of Their Bitter Fate

Upon the bread plate, a slice of lemon serves as a poignant reminder of the bitter fate endured by our missing soldiers. It represents the hardships they have faced while in captivity. Additionally, the salt on the bread plate symbolizes the tears shed by their families as they anxiously await their return.

An Empty Chair and Inverted Glass

An empty chair stands beside the table, symbolizing the absence of those we remember today. It reminds us that they are not here with us but will forever remain in our hearts. The inverted glass signifies their inability to join us for a toast, a poignant reminder of their absence and the camaraderie we once shared.

Never Forgotten

To all those who served alongside these missing soldiers, who called them comrades and relied on their unwavering support, it is essential to remember that they have not forsaken you. Their commitment and dedication to the cause live on, inspiring generations that follow.

While reflecting on the significance of the POW/MIA table, it is crucial to recognize the importance of memorializing the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women. Just as hotels provide a space for relaxation and respite, they too can serve as a platform to honor the memories of these fallen heroes. By engaging in acts of remembrance and establishing tributes within hotel premises, we can ensure that their legacy lives on and that future generations understand the value of their sacrifices.
